The Fire Summer Art Camps
Looking for a way to harness all that creative energy in your son or daughter this summer? Let The Fire's summer art camps help you out! Now in our fourth year, our goal is to offer a fine arts experience for everyone at an affordable price. We want to give your child the opportunity to use his or her intelligence and creativity while making beautiful art.
#1 - June 16 (Thursday) - Animal Flower Pots
Get to know the basics of hand building with clay while making a flowerpot disguised as your favorite critter. We'll even plant a cup garden to take home.
#2 - June 23 (Thursday) - Glass-fused clock
Learn to score, nip, and even bend glass using a candle flame all while making your own glass-fused clock. Drilling and assembly done by The Fire staff.
#3 - June 30 (Thursday) - Fish Prints
Printmaking is a versatile medium. We will test the limits by using a real fish to print unto a t-shirt and kerchief. Then we will make a watercolor painting to commemorate our fish friend!
#4 - July 7 (Thursday) Fine Silver Art Clay and Glass Fusing
Design and create your own fine silver and glass-fused pendant.
#5 - July 14 (Thursday) - Outdoor Ceramics
We'll go on a nature walk to City Park and find elements of nature to press into clay to make cool designs. Then we'll use our pressed clay to make a slab box for storing keepsakes.
#6 - July 21 (Thursday) - Native American Art
We'll show you how easy it is to make your own dream catcher. Then you'll learn how to carve your own mini-totem out of clay.
#7 - July 28 (Thursday) - Printmaking
Carve your own linoleum to print onto a raw clay coaster set using glaze as your ink. Then use it over and over to print on whatever (parent approved!) surfaces you'd like.
#8 - August 4 (Thursday) - Mosaic Frame/Photo walk
We'll take disposable camera for a stroll along College Avenue and let our budding photographers shoot a variety of fun images. Then we'll mosaic a picture frame to display these masterpieces. (Parents will need to develop film; disposable camera included in cost).
#9 - August 11 (Thursday) - Graffiti Art
Learn to make stencils like the street art pros. Use spray paint to decorate your own piece of poster board and a kerchief. We'll then embellish our stencil prints using Sharpie markers. (Facemask and gloves will be worn).
#10 - August 18 (Thursday) - Photo Glass-fusing Mobile
What better than a mobile hanging in your room that's all about you? We'll explore self-portraits from different art movements: normal, cubist, abstract, etc. and then turn those sketches into decals that will be fired permanently onto your glass-fused mobile.
Class sizes are kept to 10 children and are for children ages 8 and older. Classes are $30 and include all art supplies and a health snack. All classes are 10:00 am - noon.
